Genus
A class of things that have common characteristics and can be divided into subordinate kinds. Plants and animals from different genera cannot produce offspring capable of reproduction.
Genus is composed of different species.
For example – dogs, wolves, coyotes, and more are all species under the “Canis” (canines) genus and can reproduce. Cats and dogs are from different genera and cannot reproduce.
There are currently eight classifications but plants use only seven.
