The second class in the taxonomy system, grouping together all forms of life having certain fundamental characteristics in common. The level below domain and above Phylum (Division is used for plants). There are currently six kingdoms – Eubacteria, Archaebacteria, Plantae, Animalia, Fungi, and Protista but with further discovery, this will likely change.

There are currently eight classifications but plants use only seven.
